🛁 Cast Iron Enamel Bath: Care Guide & 10-Year Warranty
Thank you for choosing a handcrafted bath from Clawfoot Baths New Zealand. Our products are built to last a lifetime, blending timeless heritage styling with modern durability. To ensure your bath remains beautiful and functional for decades to come, please read our care guidelines and warranty terms below.
🧼 Part 1: Care & Maintenance Guide
While the fired vitreous enamel surface of your cast iron bath is incredibly hard-wearing and hygienic, it is still enamel based and requires proper care to prevent dulling, scratching, or chipping.
Daily Cleaning & Best Practices
-
Rinse After Every Use: Always rinse the bath thoroughly with clean, warm water after use to remove soap residue, body oils, and bath salts. Dry with a soft microfiber cloth to prevent water spots and limescale buildup.
-
Use Mild Cleaners Only: Clean your bath weekly using a soft sponge or microfiber cloth with warm water and a mild liquid dish soap or a specialized, non-abrasive bathroom cleaner.
-
Never Use Abrasives: Avoid harsh scrubbing pads (like steel wool or green Scotch-Brite pads) and abrasive powder cleansers. These will microscopically scratch and permanently dull the vitreous enamel glaze over time.
-
Avoid Acidic & Chemical Hazards: Keep strong chemicals away from the enamel. This includes hair dyes, harsh drain cleaners, bleach, perfumes, and highly acidic substances. If a spill occurs, rinse it away immediately with copious amounts of water.
Preventing Physical Damage
-
Watch for Impact: Dropping heavy or sharp objects (such as metal plumbing tools, heavy glass bottles, or metallic toys) into the tub can chip the glass enamel finish.
-
Tapware Care: Ensure your taps are properly installed and maintained so they do not continuously drip, as persistent dripping can cause localized staining or mineral tracking.
📜 Part 2: 10-Year Structural Warranty
We stand firmly behind the quality of our craftsmanship. All cast iron enamel baths supplied by Clawfoot Baths New Zealand come with a 10-Year Structural Warranty subject to the terms and exclusions detailed below.
🛠️ Scope of Coverage: The Option to Repair or Replace
This warranty covers verified manufacturing defects in the structural integrity of the cast iron core and also defects in the factory-applied vitreous enamel finish applied at 900 degrees celcius.
Note . In our 18 years and after 750 plus cast iron baths we have only had to replace 6 -8 baths on this basis. They are very durable baths with excellent integrity.
In the event of a valid warranty claim, Clawfoot Baths NZ Limited reserves the right to choose the most appropriate method of resolution, strictly limited to:
-
Repairing the defect on-site or at our facility, OR
-
Providing a replacement bath of identical or equivalent specification.
🚫 Strict Limitations & Liability Protection
To protect our business from external factors beyond our control, this warranty is subject to the following strict exclusions:
-
No Installation or De-installation Costs: This warranty covers the physical product only. Clawfoot Baths NZ Limited is explicitly not liable for any costs associated with plumbing, building, tiling, de-installation of the defective bath, or the re-installation of a repaired/replacement bath. All such labor and logistics costs are the sole responsibility of the owner.
-
No Consequential or Incidental Damage: We are not responsible for any consequential losses, economic losses, or incidental property damage (such as water damage to flooring, walls, or lower floors) arising from a product defect.
-
Professional Installation Required: The product must be installed by a registered, licensed plumber in strict accordance with New Zealand building codes and standards. Defects or failures caused by faulty, improper, or negligent installation are entirely excluded from coverage.
Post-Delivery Damage: This warranty does not cover scratches, chips, staining, or chemical etching that occurs after the delivery receipt has been signed. It does not cover damage caused by impacts, household misuse, or accidental drops.
-
Domestic Use Only: This 10-year warranty applies strictly to normal, everyday residential household use. Baths installed in commercial settings (such as hotels, motels, lodges, or B&Bs) are subject to a limited commercial warranty period instead.

🚫 Strict Limitations & Liability Protection
To ensure consistency across our product range, this tapware warranty is subject to the exact same strict exclusions as our bath warranty:

-
Exclusion for Normal Wear and Tear: This warranty does not cover standard wear and tear on moving parts, such as the gradual degradation of rubber washers, O-rings, or seals over time.

Accidental and Cleaning Damage: Damage caused after delivery—including surface scratches, dents, or finish stripping caused by harsh chemical cleaners, bleach, or abrasive pads—is not covered.
-
Domestic Use Only: This 2-year warranty applies strictly to normal residential household use and does not cover items installed in commercial environments (such as hotels, motels, or B&Bs).
